The Final Ties- Final Pieces

We had the wonderful experience of exhibiting our work to everyone who wandered into the School of Architecture. Our installation was surrounded by the benches and three other installations designed by our fellow second years creating a space filled with many individually designed environments. Our Glass Pavilion will continue to be exhibited at the University of Southern California until Friday. With our pavilion complete, we are waiting to see how it will respond to its changing environment. How will the viewer’s experience of glass change as the amount of sunlight or the amount of surrounding people or the surrounding sources of light change? We are exploring the life of our Glass Pavilion.

Roland Wahlroos-Ritter

Roland Wahlroos-Ritter is adjunct Professor at USC. Previously he has taught at SCI-Arc, the Bartlett, Cornell and TU Vienna. He and Ingalill Wahlroos-Ritter established their joint practice, WROAD, in London, and they are now based in Los Angeles. They have won a number of competitions including the infinity design award for the City of the Future competition 2006; the first prize for the Rabin Square design competition, Tel Aviv 2001; and first prize for the Mobile Museum, Vienna, 2001; and were shortlisted in the competition for the Korean embassy in Tokyo. Now he is directing second year students at the University of Southern California as they construct a glass pavilion.

Shelley Fu

Shelley Fu is pursuing a degree in architecture at The University of Southern California. She is passionate about giving back to the community and hopes to someday design revolutionary housing for the aging population. Aging is becoming an increasingly crucial issue and in the coming years, our parents, our families, our friends will need proper accommodations for healthy, independent lifestyles. Shelley's hope is to provide for the older generations as they once provided for her.

David Nicholson

Zenah Sakaamini

Zenah Sakaamini is a second year architecture student at the University of Southern California. She was born and raised in California. With experience in traveling, she aspires to practice the field of architecture and design on an international scale. With architecture as a main motivator, interests continue to range from painting, to furniture design and installation work. Zenah seeks to further explore architecture as a tool by which we use to develop and define our cities and communities.

Graham Wood

Graham Wood is in his second year of the five-year bachelor of architecture program at the University of Southern California. Graham has lived in Los Angeles for the past two years and has witnessed first-hand many of the social issues of a large metropolitan area. This has led to an interest in the role of architecture and the built environment in solving social problems. How can a building be more than mere shelter and become a catalyst for successful personal and professional lives? How can that building be made economically feasible for all? Graham hopes to explore these themes throughout his time at USC and career.
